Cornell University's Senior Convocation Gets a Major Funding Boost
Yesterday, Cornell's Student Assembly voted to increase the Cornell senior convocation funding by $1 to $8.50 a student. The increase amounts to tens of thousands of dollars and will allow the convocation committee to lure big name speakers in 2011 and 2012.
"The more economic leverage you have will only garner better speakers and more attendees" said convocation committee president Heather Levy.
Furthermore, convocation will remain a free event open to the public and the Cornell community.
The convocation committee has said that it cannot compete with universities offering more money and honorary degrees.
