This is a transcript of a report by Clara Enders that will air on Dec. 12th's episode of Talk of the Town at 3p on 93.5FM.

Considering giving your holiday shopping a charitable twist this weekend by supporting the Ithaca Alternative Gift Fair! From 10 AM to 10 PM on December 12th, the Alternative Gift Fair gives you the opportunity to support your favorite local charities virtually, at

Instead of giving friends and family more “stuff” and physical objects, you can honor them through donations carrying true personal meaning. You’ll be able to make donations to over 40 participating groups, including the Ithaca Children’s Garden, Tompkins County Immigrant Rights Coalition, Meals on Wheels, Cancer Resource Center, Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau, and more.

On the website, attendees will be able to see a list of all participating groups, and connect with group representatives to learn more about their missions. There will be links for attendees to make gift by credit card, but you’ll also be able to mail checks directly to the organization as well. Once a donation is made, donors can email or print out a card to send to the recipients they’ve chosen to honor.

The Alternative Gift Fair’s mission is to “provide our community with a meaningful alternative to holiday gift giving, one which celebrates personal charity, community health and well-being, and the preservation of the planet,” making the Fair a great way to spread some good this season.
