The Latest ICSD Budget Proposal
Information from the Ithaca Journal
The Ithaca City School District Board of Education has been making some last minute changes to the proposed budget for the 2009-2010 school year. The board voted last night to add a line to the budget for the New Roots Charter School with an estimate of 70 students enrolling at the school out of a possible 125. The board also decided to add the cost of the charter school to the tax levy to avoid cutting more expenses which resulted with a proposed 2.5% increase.
The board of education was able to save money in the budget for third and fourth grade band, extracurricular activities, extended school day programs, and was able to reduce the amount cut for athletics to $50,000. One proposed cut in the latest version of the budget is for $13,000 to rent space at Cornell for graduation. The board felt that it would be possible to hold graduation on the new turf field or to have space donated.
