New Roots Charter School Still Facing Opposition
Information from the Ithaca Jounral
Although the New Roots Charter School has received final approval from the State University Board of Trustees and is destined to open up in Ithaca this September, there are still a number of individuals in the community who oppose the charter school.
A grassroots movement is underway led by Corinne Frantz and Pat Ehrich who argue that the new charter school will drain resources from the Ithaca City School District.
The two parents have planned a meeting for March 5th in the BorgWarner room of the Tompkins County Public Library which is open to the public. The two hope that the school will not be able to open in September by increasing the public awareness of the charter school which they hope will make it difficult for the school to reach its enrollment numbers. If the school cannot reach enough students then it won’t be able to sustain itself.
