The Festival of Black Gospel will celebrate its 35th annual event with three days of activities around the Ithaca area. Today, from 9:00 PM to 11:30 PM in Ithaca College’s Emerson Suites comes the open mic event, “Spoken WORD”.

Tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM, the Calvary Baptist church will feature a choir segment with a community service project at Beverly Martin Elementary school following shortly after at 1:00 PM. The biggest event, the anniversary concert, will take place later Saturday night at 7:00 PM at the State Theatre. The concert features Grammy-nominated artist, Kierra Kiki Sheard. Sheard's 2006 album, "This Is Me", was nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album. Sheard's mother, Karen Clark Sheard, is part of gospel group, The Clark Sisters.

The Festival’s last event, "Live Above", will take place at Cornell’s Robert Purcell Community Center on Sunday at 4:00 PM. The Festival of Black Gospel is the last and largest Tompkins County event celebrating Black History Month.
