SPCA of Tompkins County calls upon community to aide in investigation of animal cruelty incident.

The Tompkins County SPCA is asking anyone with knowledge of two separate (but likely related) incidents in which a large number of rodents were dumped roadside at two different locations in Tompkins County (likely at some point late Saturday evening/early Sunday) to contact the SPCA’s Humane officers at 607-592-6773 or by email at: investigator@spcaonline.com.

In total, more than 300 guinea pigs, rats, mice and gerbils were recovered at the two locations: Michigan Hollow road in the Town of Danby and Caswell Road in the Town of Dryden. Additionally, hundreds of rats, guinea pigs, mice and gerbils were dumped in the woods near Ithaca, NY. About 230 have been rescued so far: 170+ rats, 32 guinea pigs, 21 mice, 12 gerbils. The SPCA doesnt have nearly the housing. If anybody can help foster these little animals please call the Tompkins County SPCA at 607-257-1822.


Many of the animals were deceased by the time officers and volunteers arrive.

The Dorothy and Roy Park Adoption Center at the SCPA of Tompkins County is open Friday-Monday 12:00pm-5:00pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:00pm-7:00pm, and Wednesday 4:00pm-7:00pm
