ITHACA, NY, Feb 1, 2018 - WVBR 93.5 FM, a top rock radio station in Ithaca, previously known as "Real Rock Radio," announced today that it will focus on providing Alternative Rock music to Tompkins County as "Ithaca's Alternative." Starting on February 12, 2018, the station will broadcast a unique music mix of Alternative Rock from the '90s to today. With its new tower and transmitter, WVBR now transmits a stronger and clearer signal, allowing the station to be heard by a larger regional audience.
WVBR is an independent, commercial radio station owned and operated by students of Cornell University. For over 60 years, WVBR has been a staple of the Tompkins County community. As "Ithaca's Alternative," WVBR will continue its long tradition of featuring Ithaca's rich local music scene on the air.
"We're curating a sound that's remarkably fresh and also intensely local - something that's not often heard on radio," said TJ Hurd, the Assistant General Manager of WVBR. "Listeners will discover great new alternative music, along with new local bands and their upcoming shows and events."
"Ithaca's Alternative" will feature classic artists like Nirvana, the Foo Fighters, and the Strokes, along with the best newcomers in the alternative genre, like the Cold War Kids and Tame Impala. Local favorites such as the X Ambassadors, The Blind Spots, and Driftwood will also be regularly highlighted.
WVBR will continue to broadcast its popular schedule of specialty programs on the weekends. Shows like "Bound for Glory" and "Rockin' Remnants" have been on the air since the 1960s and will remain an integral part of WVBR's programming.
