Unfortunately, tonight will mark the end of March Madness.
The only positive thing to come out of this is a new national champion will be crowned. This year’s final will be exponentially better than last year’s title game, where UConn and Butler showed the country how not to play offense on the biggest stage in college. In that game, UConn only shot 34.5% from the field, but were able to win, due to the fact that Butler shot a dreadful 18.8%.
This year’s game will be totally different and much more interesting. John Calipari has brought his third team to the Final Four- but will this Kentucky team be the one that finally wins him a title? Player of the Year Anthony Davis, despite being a freshmen, is projected to be the first overall pick in this year draft- will he follow Carmelo Anthony in leaving for the NBA after winning the NCAA title? Will Coach of the Year Bill Self win another title as head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks? We shall see- the opening tip is scheduled for 9:26 PM tonight.
I’ll be the first to say that I absolutely underestimated Kentucky when making my bracket. I had them in the Final Four, but had them losing to Missouri (that loss still haunts to this day). Anthony Davis is an absolute force to be reckoned with, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is no slouch either. Why I didn’t realize this weeks ago, but… Kentucky’s too good. Despite Kansas hot streak, they have been in close games since the Round of 32. I had them in the Finals in my bracket, but I had them losing to Missouri (again, the loss haunts me). And I still have them losing- Kentucky 68, Kansas 61.
