Time to talk about the demise of quote-unquote “America’s Team”- the Dallas Cowboys. Side note: I am NOT a New York Giants fan. Rather, I’m a Jets fan. Still, besides the Patriots, the Cowboys are probably the team I hate the most. Since 1996 (the last time the won a Super Bowl), they’ve been all talk, and they have absolutely nothing to show for it. By far, the one of the biggest underachievers in all of professional sports. One playoff win in the last 14 years? Really? Every year they have a team that can really contend for something. And every year they somehow mess up. Remember Tony Romo’s botched snap on that field goal 3 years ago that cost the Cowboys a victory against the Seahawks?
And now the Cowboys are in shambles. They’re 1-7, and for the first time in their history, fired a coach midseason. Let me say it is not Wade Phillips’s fault. Since their humbling loss against the Giants at Cowboys Stadium (and Tony Romo’s injury), it seems as though they have given up. The defense started off awful and has only gotten worse. Case and point: a 45-7 loss, at home, to the JAGUARS!
Its now Jason Garrett’s turn to try to turn the team around. But only 3 days after Garrett was announced to be interim coach, owner Jerry Jones today announced that he had Super Bowl winning coaches contact him about the job. Jones, however, would not disclose any names, out of respect for Garrett. That’s odd to me: if he had any respect for Garrett, why would he even bring up the fact that he had proven coaches wanting the job? Why would he have even brought that up? It beats me.
All I care is that the Cowboys are up in flames right now. And I wouldn’t mind seeing them go 1-15 this year.
