Today the first installment of a $51 billion relief package was released to help the victims of the northeast hurricane Sandy. This first installment includes $5.4 billion of funds with New York City receiving $1.77 billion and New York State receiving $1.71 billion. A press conference was held in New York City today after the release of funds. Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced New York City funds will first go toward repairing homes and businesses and to begin development of storm resilient technology. Bloomberg hopes for these projects to be started by May of this year.
