The City of Ithaca may be planning to renovate Old Elmira Road, which has changed little in its 60-year existence, thanks largely to a state grant of almost $700,000.
Plans for the road include the addition of sidewalks and bike lanes stretching from Route 13 to the roundabout at Albany Street, according to the Ithaca Times, as well as potential crosswalks and drainage improvement projects. Some business owners on this largely commercial street expressed concern that the renovations would take longer than expected and lead to significant profit losses. However, the city is planning to hold a public information meeting early next year to address any concerns and give more details on the project.
