Tompkins County, NY - On July 24th, 2019 at 9:30 AM, the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office will be presenting the Tompkins County Champion Award at the Public Safety Committee meeting at the Tompkins County Legislative Chambers, to the family of Sgt. James G. Johnston, of Trumansburg, NY.

Sgt. Johnston was killed on duty in Afghanistan on June 25th, 2019. He had been serving in active military service since July of 2013 as an explosive ordnance disposal specialist. His commitment to his country, family, and community are shown through, not only his many honors and decorations from his military service, but through the legacy that he left behind and the family, he died protecting.

“We want the opportunity to honor Sgt. Johnston, and his family, for his sacrifice. We cannot imagine the overwhelming emotions that his family is feeling, but we want them to know they are not alone and that Sgt. Johnston’s service has not been overlooked and will certainly not be forgotten”, says Sheriff Osborne.

Those members of the public that would like to come and show support are welcome to attend this presentation.
