ITHACA— Tompkins County Public Library is hosting a special fundraising event, Barbarella, Beer & Banter, at Cinemapolis on October 2, 2019 from 6-9pm. Featuring live commentary by local comedians during a screening of the 1968 sci-fi comedy film “Barbarella,” the event will also offer a cash bar by Lucky Hare Brewing, with a portion of sales to benefit the arts at TCPL. Commentary will be provided by local comedians Kenneth McLaurin, Dan Kelly, Eli Corning, Marissa Rice, Bryan VanCampen, and Deidre Mollura. Proceeds from the event will be used to assist artists and curators in showing art at TCPL. The library, with its mission of providing free and open access to all, is the ideal place to nurture curators and artists from underrepresented and/or culturally isolated populations, who may encounter difficulty in getting their voices heard and being seen. Emerging artists at the beginning of their careers often do not have funds for preparing their work to be shown, like materials for framing and hanging. The TCPL Arts Fund helps these artists prepare their work in order to reach greater audiences and recognition. Tickets are $20 and available via Cinemapolis’s website athttps://boxoffice.diamondticketing.com/cinemapolis/upcoming/77331/6686. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
