CAYUGA MUSEUM’S EMERGING ARTIST SERIES CONTINUES Show Spotlighting Multi-Media Artist Renqian Yang Debuts August 15th

Auburn, N.Y. (August 1, 2019): The Cayuga Museum of History and Art Emerging Artist series continues with this year’s sixth show, featuring the work of artist Renqian Yang.  Fascinated by dualism and binaries, Yang’s work explores the seemingly divergent and combines them: tragedy and comedy, correctness and abstraction. She uses traditional methods like ceramics and combines them with more modernized, mixed media approaches, engaging in the many different ways that clay can produce new opportunities for expression. The show will be on display from August 15 to September 14, 2019. Yang's work has exhibited in the United States and China. Her recent exhibitions include: Renqian Yang: Construct Deconstruction, Taoxichuan Ceramic Art Avenue Art Gallery, Jingdezhen, China (2018); Renqian Yang: Complementary Colors, Fou Gallery, New York (2016); Renqian Yang: Extraordinary Ordinary, Biggercode Gallery, New York (2017). She served as a residency artist at Craigardan (2018), Jindezhen International Studio (2018), and the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts (2017). Yang earned her B.F.A. in Ceramics from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Chongqing in 2009 and her M.F.A. in Ceramics from Syracuse University in 2014. Currently, she lives and works in Oswego, New York as an artist and Assistant Professor at the State University of New York at Oswego. You can learn more about her artwork here: http://www.renqianyang.com/. The reception to the month-long show is scheduled for Thursday, August 15 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.  Works will be on display, and are also for sale. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is $5 general public, Museum members free. The Cayuga Museum is located at 203 Genesee Street, Auburn. The CNY Emerging Artist Project features the work of a different artist each month, with an opening reception on the third Thursday of each month.  Christine Chin will be the next featured artist, from September 19 to October 12.
