It's here again! The GRAND RECYCLE SALE at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca has something for everyone!
This large annual sale has a long history in our community. Beginning in the mid-1950s, the church has held the event for the public ever since. With its variety of good quality, gently-used items and reasonable prices, this sale has become a welcome Ithaca tradition. All are invited to browse and buy.
As the coordinators of this year's sale say, "We've got the weird to wondrous -- from ballgowns to bowling balls and fish tanks, with furniture, housewares, clothing and lots more in between! Hundreds of boxes and bags of donated items are being sorted."
The Unitarian sale has always been known for its wonderful donations, ease of shopping, and variety of items. The sale has something for everyone: furniture, housewares, clothing, books, art, rugs, collectibles, jewelry, electronics, sporting goods, linens, toys and games, records and CDs, holiday and craft items, luggage, office, garden, pet supplies, tools, and lots more. All are neatly arranged in separate, well-marked rooms or "shops," sort of like a mall.
The massive organizational work starts in earnest in May, with co-chairs recruiting volunteers and meeting with department heads so the event will run smoothly. All donations are collected weeks before the sale, and a large part of the preparation is sorting and tagging items so that only the best items remain for purchase.
During the sale days, helpful volunteers staff every room and can direct you to the best bargains! In the church's sanctuary, which becomes a shoe department and art gallery during the sale, hundreds of pairs of shoes and boots are spread across the church platform. The adjacent parlor becomes the rug and furniture department. And there are separate rooms, upstairs and down, for housewares, clothing, electronics, and more.
Whether you're on a tight budget or simply looking for something useful, fun, or unique, you'll likely find it at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca’s Grand Recycle Sale! Please mark your calendars for this exceptional sale!
