Original Airdate: Tuesday, January 26, 2010. This is a part of the 93-Second Sports Shot series. 93-Second Sports Shots air weekday nights at 6pm.In my 93 second sport shot I want to take the time to talk about Tim Tebow. Tebow, who has established himself as one of, if not the most prolific, player in College Football history is participating in this weekends Senior Bowl. Seniors are expected to participate but not generally not many players of Tebows fame and caliber attend the event. It's a huge risk, and no doubt NFL scouts, sportswriters and America will keep the spotlight on him.
Most NFL Experts project Tebow as a tight end or H-back when he makes his entrance onto the NFL stage. This week Tebow tries to disprove that. While there are no prolific NFL signal callers who have come from spread offenses, Tebow is trying to show that he can take snaps under center â€" something he was unsuccessful at during his first Senior Bowl practice. Up to this point in the practices, his performance has been rated below those of Zac Robinson and Jarrett Brown also of the South team.
However, I think that it would be unfair to cast final judgment on Tebow yet. While his throwing motion is unconventional, he's played in the spread offense for four years, and he tends to lock onto reads, there is one thing that is undeniable about Tebow's game: he's a hard worker and leader.
Many great college football players are unsuccessful in their jump to the NFL because they don't put time in watching tape or are not respected by teammates. Neither of these are questions for Tebow. His work ethic is one of the best in college football and he is questionably the greatest leader college football has ever seen. With enough hard work and respect, I believe that Tebow can transform himself into a pretty good NFL quarterback. Maybe not a Pro Bowler but a good one.
As the NFL Draft approaches in April, the media, NFL scouts, and America will be entranced by Tebow's story. He's strong in his convictions, and I have no doubt that if he wants to become a good NFL quarterback, he will be.
