Original Airdate: Thursday, October 29, 2009. This is a part of the 93-Second Sports Shot series. 93-Second Sports Shots air weekday nights at 6pm.The NBA season tipped off on Wednesday night. The beginning of a season is always the time to make predictions, so here are 3 of mine:
Number 1. This season will have one of the most active trading periods ever. With the tremendously anticipated Summer 0f 2010 Free Agency period coming up, teams with stars who are bound to leave will seek to get something in return for their star. Teams who will try to attract those same stars in the offseason will make deals to clear cap space, and on the periphery, teams looking to add good role players will be able to find them because of all the activity. I expect that at least one superstar, and likely more, will be traded mid-season.
Prediction number 2. The Portland Trail Blazers will join the rank of the elite teams this season. Brandon Roy will make people understand that he is truly a top player. Greg Oden will be much improved, as will be the rest of the Blazers fantastic young core. They had the talent last yearâ€"and this year they'll have the experience to go with it. They may not take home the title, but expect them to give the Lakers, Nuggets, and Spurs all they can handle in both the regular season and the playoffs.
Prediction Number 3-- this prediction is actually the absence of a prediction. As I try to think right now about who I like to win the Nba Title, I realize that there's just no way to say . The 5 best teams from last year,The Celtics, Cavs, Magic, Spurs, and Lakers, have all experienced some major changes, and only time will tell how those changes work out and how teams stack up. As I mentioned before, I think the Blazers will join the ranks of these top teams, and I wouldn't rule out the Hawks doing the same in the East. At this point, there is simply no clear cut title favorite. Every top team has a bit of mystery surrounding it, and I think that's a great recipe for an exciting season.
