"The Falcons were 8-0?!?!?" Edition

Not too many teams that moved a lot this week. The Jaguars and Chiefs basically flip flop for the bottom 2 spots, but the top 5 has radically changed over the course of the last few weeks. Also, one of my close friends was right about the Falcons not being so great. Check it out:

Rank

Team

Change

Record

Reasoning

1

Texans

--

9-1

The Texans had a close game against the Jaguars, but good teams find a way to win those close ones. Schaub and Andre Johnson had record setting games.

2

49ers

+1

7-2-1

The 49ers tore apart a tough Bears defense. There’s going to be a difficult QB decision to be made here as Kaepernick put up a strong performance in place of Alex Smith.

3

Packers

+2

7-3

The Packers are now at the top of the NFC North, arguably the hardest division in the NFL.  Despite this win being ugly, the Packers showed that they’ve really turned this season around.

4

Falcons

-2

9-1

6 turnovers and no run game contributed to the Falcons almost losing their 2nd game in a row. The Falcons have proven that they really are not one of the top teams.

5

Broncos

+1

7-3

The Broncos are one of the most complete teams in the NFL, dominating opponents on all fronts. Peyton is putting up an MVP caliber season and Von Miller is a beast.

6

Patriots

+1

7-3

The Colts looked like a pretty strong team before this week, but the Patriots completely dominated them by putting up 59 points. Gronkowski is injured, but this team still has a lot of weapons.

7

Ravens

+1

8-2

It wasn’t the best win, but the Ravens came out on top of their division rival, the Steelers. I was wrong; the Ravens did not collapse after all their injuries.

8

Bears

-4

7-3

That was an embarrassing performance all around by the Bears. They have to get their act together quickly because the other NFC North teams are slowly creeping up.

9

Giants

+1

6-4

It’s always helpful when the Giants bye week comes during November. They better snap out of their November slump early if they want to stay atop the division.

10

Steelers

-1

6-4

The Steelers have been ravaged by injuries, and now that Roethlisberger is out, it’s starting to show.

11

Seahawks

--

6-4

Seattle has been strong lately while Miami has regressed incredibly quickly over the last few weeks. It’s a battle of rookie QB’s this week.

12

Vikings

--

6-4

The Vikings have a murderous schedule over the next few weeks, playing the Packers and Bears twice, along with the Texans. Let’s see if they can eke into the playoffs.

13

Buccaneers

+1

6-4

The Buccaneers are now playoff contenders after a win against the Panthers. Next week, they face the stumbling Falcons at home.

14

Saints

+1

5-5

The Saints have won 5 of their last 6 games. Their offense has been incredible, and the defense is slowly improving as well.

15

Redskins

+2

4-6

RGIII is back. The Redskins took advantage of the Eagles’ failures, but this week’s matchup against the Cowboys is going to be tougher.

16

Colts

-3

6-4

Belichick was relentless against the Colts this past week. They were picked apart as the Patriots put up 59 points. They’ll need to get back on track against the Bills.

17

Bengals

+2

5-5

Mohamed Sanu helping the offense become less one-sided has helped the Bengals immensely. Next week, they face an extremely porous Raiders defense.

18

Cowboys

--

5-5

The Cowboys were dominated by the Browns throughout the first half but managed to do enough to pull out a win in overtime.

19

Lions

-3

4-6

Despite a promising season last year, the Lions have struggled to finish games this year. There’s a lot of young talent on this team to be developed for the next few years.

20

Cardinals

--

4-6

The Cardinals offense was nonexistent Sunday. They failed to score a touchdown after 4 of their 5 interceptions. On the plus side, the defense and LSH were great.

21

Dolphins

--

4-6

Playoff hopes are all but lost for the Dolphins after a terrible few weeks. They’ll have to continue to focus on their “rebuilding”.

22

Bills

+4

4-6

The Bills pulled out a much needed win last Thursday. If the playcalling had been better throughout this season, I could see Buffalo being 6-4 right now.

23

Chargers

--

4-6

Philip Rivers isn’t exactly the best QB, but you’ve got to feel sorry for him after the way his O-line played last game. Also, Norv Turner still inexplicably has a job.

24

Titans

--

4-6

After their bye this past week, the Titans face what looks to be a rejuvenated Jaguars squad. This matchup might be tougher than it seems.

25

Jets

+2

4-6

It’s hard to tell which Jets we’ll see each week. It could be the team that dominated the Rams this past week, or it could be the team that only put up 9 against the Dolphins.

26

Rams

-4

3-6-1

This season had looked somewhat promising for the Rams. Unfortunately, there are too many problems for the stars of this team to shine through.

27

Eagles

-2

3-7

Out of all the disappointing team performances so far, I think the Eagles have had the most disappointing season. There’s so much talent on this team gone to waste.

28

Panthers

--

2-8

It baffles me how the Panthers played fairly well for 3 quarters and most of the 4th but imploded when they really needed to perform.

29

Browns

--

2-8

It seems like every one of their losses is really close. The Browns blew an early 13 point lead against the Cowboys to land themselves at 2-8.

30

Raiders

--

3-7

The Raiders have the worst defense in football right now. It’s gonna be hard for a team to win when they’ve given up 135 points in the last 3 games.

31

Jaguars

+1

1-9

The Jaguars showed promise as they almost beat perhaps the best team in the NFL. Awesome performances by Shorts and Blackmon give some hope for future seasons.

32

Chiefs

-1

1-9

At this point, you should basically just think about what you’re gonna do with that #1 draft pick next year.

As always, leave a comment at the bottom of the page to let me know what you think.
