The Cornell Men's Ice Hockey Team will be heading to the ECAC Championships for the fourth consecutive year after defeating Quinnipiac 3-2 Sunday Night at Lynah Rink in the decisive game of their best-of-three series. The fourth-seeded Big Red will now face third-seeded Dartmouth in the ECAC semifinals Friday at 7:30 PM at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The other semifinal will pit second-seeded Yale against twelfth-seeded Colgate.
Cornell jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the contest on a power play goal Patrick Kennedy just over three minutes into the game after a too many men on the ice penalty on the Bobcats. The Red added to that lead in the second on a goal by Joe Devin on a Cornell rush into the Quinnipiac zone. The Bobcats stormed back in the third period however, getting on the board on a Scott Zurevinski goal midway through the frame, and evening up the game minutes later on a goal that just barely got through Michael Garman. Despite Quinnipiac seemingly possessing all of the momentum heading into overtime, Garman and the Red were able to weather the storm, stoning the Bobcats numerous times in the extra session. This allowed Joe Devin to net his second goal of the game to send the Big Red to Atlantic City. With top-seeded Union being upset by 12th-seeded Colgate tonight, Cornell catches a break and will face number three Dartmouth instead of the top-seeded Dutchmen.
