Mitt Romney, the on-again, off-again, Republican front runner, won the Florida primary with 47% percent of the vote. In second place was Newt Gingrich, with 32% percent of the vote. And in third place with 13% percent of the vote was Rick Santorum.
Romney, who had lost the previous primary race in South Caroline, has had anything but a smooth path to the Republican nomination. In South Caroline, Romney lost to Newt Gingrich in a surprising turn of events. And had he lost Florida as well, some political pundits said that might have been too much for his candidacy to take.
