Beginning Tuesday, November 1, the City of Ithaca's Odd/Even Parking Regulations will go into effect. The ordinance will remain in effect through April 1, 2012 in order to support Ithaca's snow removal systems and to maintain parking throughout the City.
Parking regulations state that between 2am and 6am on odd numbered days, it is illegal to park on the odd numbered side of the street. Between 2am and 6am on even numbered days, it is illegal to park on the even numbered side of the street.
More simply, when returning home to park before midnight on even numbered days, residents should park on the even numbered side of the street, and when returning home to park before midnight on odd numbered days, residents should park on the odd side of the street. This rule of thumb does not apply when returning home to park after midnight.
Of particular note are days the end of the month, when two consecutive odd-numbered days arise in the transition from the 31st to the 1st.
The City is also reminding residents that throughout the year, there is a 24-hour parking restriction effective on any city street Monday through Friday. Cars that have not been moved within 72 hours could be considered abandoned and subject to towing at the owner's expense.
Be the first!
