National Teach Ag Day
Press Release via Katie Brosnan:
National Teach Ag Day is a day to celebrate school-based agricultural education and to encourage agricultural education advocates, especially current agricultural educators to share with others the great career opportunities in agricultural education. National Teach Ag Day was celebrated nationwide on March 24th. Agricultural education teaches students about agriculture, animal science, food and natural resources. Through these subjects, agricultural educators teach students a wide variety of skills, including science, math, communications, leadership, management and technology. The Cornell Colligate FFA, is a campus organization aimed to spread the word about the importance of agriculture while continuing to work towards the FFA mission of making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. This week in honor of National Teach Ag Day CFFA participated in Agstravaganza on April 2nd. At this public event hosted in the Ithaca Mall, CFFA members promoted agriculture education by engaging youth in a fun, interactive learning activity. Additionally, the club has implemented a bumper sticker contest in which members are challenged to place stickers in public places to promote awareness; awards will be given to students who demonstrate creativity. To wrap up the Teach Ag celebration, CFFA plans to manage a booth on April 8th that will be dedicated to educating CALS students about the importance of agriculture literacy and education.
