The body of Brad Ginsburg, Cornell class of 2013, was pulled from the gorge below the Thurston Avenue Bridge this morning. Joe Schwartz of the Cornell Press office confirms that a body was taken from the gorge.
WVBR has confirmed Ginsburg's identity through an internal e-mail sent to Donlon Hall residents, of whom Ginsburg was one.
According to the message, counseling is being offered to residents of Donlon Hall and a meeting will be held tonight at 9:00 P.M. for residents of Ginsburg's floor.
Ginsburg was a freshmen Economics major and a pledge of Cornell's Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.
Ginsburg was reported missing by Donlon residents late Tuesday night. He was last seen very early Tuesday morning.
Ginsburg's body, discovered around 10:30AM, was recovered early this afternoon in a joint effort by the Cornell Police, Ithaca Police and the Ithaca Fire and Rescue. The bridge was closed throughout the morning as rescue workers attempted to reach the body by rappelling into the gorge.
The Cornell community is expressing its sympathy over the loss of Ginsburg.
“I join the Cornell community in profound sadness over the death of Bradley Ginsburg,” said Cornell President David Skorton. “My heartfelt condolences go to his family and many friends. It is especially important, in this time of grief, that we reach out to one another on campus and take advantage of support services the university provides.”
"My heart goes out Brad's friends and family. We're very upset about this," said Allen Miller, President of Cornell University's IFC.
Cornell Police is leading an investigation into the cause of the fall.
The bridge is currently open to both pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
