President Obama Delivers First State Of The Union Address
What is Barack Obama's number one focus for 2010? Job creation. And along with this, a general stimulation of the economy. Last night, the president gave his first State of the Union address which lasted an impressive 71 minutes. He had a lot to talk about.
During the speech, the president challenged Republicans in the Senate who had been limiting his actions, and urged members of his own party to unite and make use of the democratic majority. Republican opposition hasn't helped with his plans for progress.
One of the many issues Obama addressed was the bailout money given to many major corporations, money that was funded by taxpayers. He wasn't happy about it, but acknowledged it as a necessary evil. The failure of these banks and other institutions could have set our economy back even further. Fortunately, as the president pointed out, much of the lent money has been recovered, but he spoke about calling for additional taxes on big banks to collect the rest.
