New York State is to have another award!
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) hands awards based on efforts and policies that are implemented by cities to sustain high quality drinking water. New York City will be receiving the “Exemplary Source Water Protection Award” on June 2013. The city has promoted farmers’ education on wastewater and stormwater as well as supporting infrastructure developments in the state. The city has been working on improving drinking water quality since 1993 and it spent more than $1.5 billion for its projects. This money was invested in building wastewater treatment plants, implementing monitoring programs and increasing awareness about water protection. The award will be given during the AWWA Annual Conference & Exposition.
