Cornell Police began to increase the their presence on Cornell campus because of the correlation between warmer weather and increase in student parties and illegal activities.
With summer around the corner the Ithaca Police and Cornell Police departments have increased their patrols around campus. Officers are working extra shifts past 11 pm when most college parties take place. This police response is due to the increase in criminal activity, alcohol consumption, and other lawful offenses that correlates with the warmer weather that Cornell Campus is beginning to experience. This past weekend alone police dealt with six alcoholic related cases and two cases of illegal marijuana possession. CUPD chief Kathy Zoner stated, “There tend to be more parties — and larger parties — when the weather is warm. During senior week we will increase our presence”. The local police encourage students to take advantage of the New York State Good Samaritan Law and the Greek Life medical amnesty policies in emergency situations.
