A lawyer and Painted Post native yesterday added herself to the list of Democrats to announce intentions to run for the 23rd District congressional seat.
Melissa K. Dobson of Owego joins Tompkins County Legislator Nathan Shinagawa, Aid to Maurice Hinchey Dan Lamb, and Ithaca lawyer Leslie Danks Burke as Democrats who will seek the seat.
Nathan Shinagawa, who lives with Mayor Svante Myrick in Collegetown, is a Cornell graduate and has lived in Ithaca for 10 years.
Dan Lamb announced his running mid-February, and Leslie Danks Burke announced her running in early February.
The newly running Melissa Dobson works with startup companies across the Southern Tier and throughout New York to link education and job opportunities. She believes the key to successful communities is smart government, according to a press release.
The newly drawn 23rd District includes many of the counties currently in the 29th District. Republican Tom Reed of Corning is the incumbent representative.
The new district will contain all of Tompkins County, which had been split between districts now represented by Democrat Maurice Hinchey, and Republican Richard Hanna.
