For those who like indie guitar rock, it doesn't get much better than Built to Spill. Guitarist/vocalist Doug Martsch formed Built to Spill in 1992 with the original intention of changing the band's line-up on every album. After two albums, two line-ups, and a stint on Lollapalooza, Martsch signed Built to Spill to Warner Bros Records. Despite being on a major label, the band was able to design a deal that allowed them to retain most of the creative control. It paid off. Built to Spill has received much critical acclaim, developed a devoted following, and become one of the most recognizable U.S. indie bands.
