Grouplove, The Lumineers, Passion Pit, The Avett Brothers, Of Monsters and Men, Dave Matthews Band, Mumford & Sons...it's just a small list of band's who have released albums in the past months. I'm here to get you caught up.
Grouplove's "Never Trust A Happy Song" was actually released over a year ago, but it just became popular over the summer. The album, given away from the name, is full of happy sounding songs. However, when you listen closely to the lyrics, you'll notice the topics aren't happy at all. Listen to Tongue Tied here.
The Lumineers' self titled album has come to be one of my favorites of the recent albums. Their beautiful lyrics will surely have you identifying with their music. A mix of folk, rock, and americana, The Lumineers will have you addicted from the start. Here's the opening track: Flowers in Your Hair
Passion Pit has done something really intersting with their album "Gossamer". I never would've expected them to actually mix in a few sad songs into the album. I personally prefer to listen to their debut album "Manners" becaue of how happy it is, but "Gossamer" is still classic Passion Pit. You may have heard their single "Take A Walk" in a Taco Bell commercial. I'll Be Alright
The Avett Brothers are one of the best song writers in all modern music, and their new album "The Carpenter" did not dissapoint! I was in awe of how great the lyrics were. Additionally, nobody could've put better music to those lyrics than The Avett Brothers themselves, so if you're a fan of really ridiculously good lyrics, give this and "The Lumineers" a listen. Live and Die
Of Monster's and Men is probably one of the most original sounds of any new artist out there. "Mountain Sound" is one of the happiest songs I've ever heard, and I can't stop listening to it. Their debut album is called "My Head is An Animal". The band, which hails from Iceland, is described as "Indie Folk or Indie Pop". Their single "Little Talks" has been extremely sucessful on charts around the world.
The Dave Matthews Band has done it again! Their new album "Away From the World" brings back old memories of when they first released their songs "Where Are You Going?", "Crash Into Me", and "Crush". It's a very relaxing album, and it's an absolute must listen. It's their best album since they released "Busted Stuff". Here's Gaucho
Last but not least, Mumford & Sons has released a masterpiece album. "Babel" is full of beautiful music, including a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer" as a bonus track. Marcus Mumford's amazing voice and intriguing lyrics are sure to leave you wanting more.
Well there's my mini-review of just some of the newly released albums. Check 'em out when you get a chance and you're sure to find something you'll love for years to come.
