Raspy soul siren Macy Gray releases a new covers album featuring some of her favorite rock and alternative tunes.
Hold on to your hats, kids. Macy Gray, the R&B and soul songstress best known for the hit single "I Try", has just released a new album, Covered, featuring covers of some of her favorite rock tunes from the past few decades. It's an eclectic mix to be sure -- Arcade Fire, Fiona Apple, Kanye West and Sublime all feature -- and has, so far, received a widely mixed response from both critics and fans. Gray's quirky, raspy voice isn't for everyone, and the toned-down groove aesthetic she applies to these can be perplexing at times (check out her version of "Sail", by AWOLNATION) but a few tracks offer refreshing perspectives on old favorites.
Here's a link to her version of "Maps", by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Let us know what you think!
