[[image|id=244|align=right]] Living Colour was so awesome. Professor G. and I arrived around 8ish and got ourselves some good ol' bar food while the opening act, 12oz. Muzzle, shook the club. But when Corey, Vernon, Doug and Calhoun came out we were ready. They opened with Time's Up and played through the first 3 songs on the album. I can't remember which song it was anymore, but right before Calhoun's drum solo, Doug Wimbish came down onto the floor and played a sick guitar style solo on his bass. When one of the best session bassists ever is standing right next to you and shredding his bass apart with this random audience member's beer, you know that these guys were havin' a ball. Wimbish gave the guy his beer back, turned to face me and started playin' his bass with his teeth. Now maybe Hendrix played guitar solos with his teeth, but when does a bassist play with his teeth? Wimbish did it last night. I can't forget Vernon Reid. Besides his hilarious banter with Corey the entire night, he played some sweet solos. I really respect him for letting Wimbish take the spotlight for a good chunk of time. Reid didn't need to show off anything. We all know he can play. His solos were quick and fierce. William Calhoun. The man can beat the hell out of wooden sticks. Towards the end of his drum solo, one piece of his drumstick flew off behind him and the other almost impaled someone up front. I didn't know until last night that Calhoun is from my home borough, The Bronx. You rock man. Corey's vocals haven't changed a bit since they first started. He stretched the opening to Open Letter To A Landlord beautifully and powerfully. It caught me off guard as I tried to sing along, but he did a fabulous job. Sporting a shirt that said "Harmless Black Man," he was alive all night and looked like he was just havin' fun. I'm glad I got to see these four legends do what they do best and just have fun. Next time Professor G. and I do the 90's Show you will certainly hear some Living Colour.
