It's Blitz, by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, was released March 9, 2009. It is, by far, the best album I have encountered in the past year. I've always been a fan of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, entranced by Karen O's edgy voice and enraged screams, but It's Blitz introduces a whole new style for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The Album relies mostly upon synths as the album is mostly a captivating seduction of the dance floor. However, even the peppier, faster songs become heartbreaking as Karen has managed to turn her previous edge into a softer, more meaningful, and haunting sound. The lyrics have become sweeter and the overall sound of the band has become much more rich and emotionally developed. Their edginess remains and still engages, but it's the moving and poignant cry of Karen O combined with the bands new musical maturity that breathes new life into a mostly indistinguishable genre. If you haven't already, listen to this album, you will not be disappointed!
