Ronnie James Dio dies after battling stomach cancer
May 16, 2010
[[image|id=234|align=left]]Today we mourn the passing of metal legend Ronnie James Dio. His wife, Wendy, announced the sad news on his official website: "''Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.''" The Cortland native was perhaps most famous for replacing Ozzy Osbourne as the frontman of ''Black Sabbath''. Throughout his prolific career, Dio also performed with ''Elf'', ''Rainbow'', and his own band ''Dio''. Most recently he was a part of ''Heaven & Hell'', a collaboration featuring Dio and Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice. He was inducted into Hollywood's Rockwalk in 2007. WVBR extends our deepest condolences to Ronnie James Dio's family and friends.
