Thursday mornings this summer have been a "retro rewind" experience for me, and I'm sure some WVBR listeners! I've been DJing the morning shift each Thursday for about a month now, and it feels good to be back.
I never "left" WVBR, of course. You can hear me on the radio just about every day, whether it's on the 14850 Dining Report or on a commercial, and I've guest hosted on WVBR's Bound for Glory, but I haven't done all that much DJing since Dan Cole and I covered for "Mix in the Morning" when Jeff was sick almost four years ago.
Getting back on the air involved learning WVBR's new DJ software, which we use for playing things like commercials, the latest from ABC News Now, and some of our music. (CDs and even vinyl records still make an appearance, too, of course!) Fellow DJ Rob Sullivan was a big help getting me caught up on the new software. To give you an idea how long we'd been using the previous software... that's what replaced the tape cartridges (that looked like 8-track tapes) we'd used for decades for commercials, promos, and such.
It's also nice to spend some time at WVBR's new digs looking out over a busy Collegetown street from our bay window. We've had some beautiful sunny weather this summer (as always), and I love that I can look out and see the sunshine while I'm talking about the latest WVBR Weather Center Forecast.
My Thursday morning shift is just about over, and I'll be handing the reins over to the inimitable John Simon. Enjoy listening, and I'll talk to you next week!
