The Cornell Radio Guild, which operates Ithaca's Only Real Rock Radio station, WVBR 93.5 FM, will release a second internet-based radio station called CornellRadio.com on February 3rd, 2012.
CornellRadio.com will host a web-based radio stream that will feature a mix of Top 40, Hip Hop and Rap, Alternative, Dance, and Techno music. Content will also include Cornell News, Sports, and Campus Updates. The online radio stream will be supported by multimedia content including videos, podcasts, and interactive applications that are in development.
In launching this new station, the Cornell Radio Guild hopes to add diversity to the programming its stations provide, and to interact more directly with Cornell students, faculty, and staff while continuing to provide the Ithaca and Tompkins County community via WVBR.
The Guild hopes to expand its mission of training students and community members in the field of broadcast media by adding this web based component to its broadcast repertoire. Staff members will now have the opportunity to learn how to develop content for a platform which competes with other internet-based listening programs such as Spotify, iTunes, and Pandora. The stream will also provide experience in producing hyperlocal news, sports, entertainment, and music content.
In the next several weeks, there will be several new programs and services launched via CornellRadio.com that will be announced by the Cornell Radio Guild accordingly.
